beginner's guide

Hi! This is Bryn, author and protagonist of the silence and the storyteller. In the event that you've happened to come across this story without knowing about something called the Fear Mythos, this should be useful; otherwise, you'll probably be good.

Talking about the Fear Mythos is a very important part of this project, and the Fear Mythos is the source of many of the references and concepts included here, which is why it's important to understand if you choose to read this.

  • The Fear Mythos: A community and writing tool created by Lizard Bite, CuteWithoutThe, and alliterator (who doesn't have a wiki page), with DJay32 being asked to join soon afterwards and contributing many important concepts and projects early on, arguably making him a de facto founder. The central concept of the Fear Mythos is that of the Fears, an open-source collective of (usually supernatural, often horrific) beings. The Fear Mythos can be thought of as similar to the Cthulhu Mythos or the SCP Foundation, in that it can be used by anyone and in any way they see fit, with no one true canon or true author. Unlike most Cthulhu Mythos stories, the Fear Mythos has a strong tendency towards metatextuality, which I wanted to explore in this project.
  • The Quiet: A Fear created by alliterator that usually takes the form of a force that erases objects, people, and locations from reality, often removing them from people's memories.
  • The Blind Man: A Fear created by alliterator that usually takes the form of an old man wearing sunglasses or a blindfold, capable of taking people's memories and storing them in his own archives or giving them to others.
